Apsley Kennel was established in 2003 and is a small and exclusive operation catering to Corporate professionals who do not have the time to train their own puppies or dogs. John Lewis, the owner specializes in providing well behaved family pets and impressive hunting dogs -- or a combination of both. Situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, Apsley Kennels offers a different product and service compared to most breeders and kennels which presumably is the reason why regular clients return each year and continually pass the word onto their friends. After all, where else can dogs live and exercise in a pack of up to 15 dogs completely free to run, play and swim as opposed to being cooped up in a run and fouling their living space? The reason that every dog in the pack has to be trained is so that when the dogs are exercised in the woods, fields, and ponds they all respond to the recall whistle and John returns to the kennel with the same number of dogs as when he started!

The new kennel building provides comfortable accommodation with self watering bowls, a shower and grooming area, an effective heating and cooling system, but unlike conventional kennels there are no outside runs. Why? The difference is that all visitors enjoy the unique Apsley experience of being exercised four times daily which allows them to relieve themselves in the woods instead of the run. Training sessions are conducted both one on one and also with John's regular team of six working labradors.
